The Diem Association, a Swiss non-profit organization, aims to launch a digital currency linked to the US dollar in 2021. The person familiar with the matter, who preferred to remain anonymous, said the pilot will be small-scale, focusing largely on transactions between individual consumers.

However, there is no endorsed release date, and therefore the plan may change.
