At the CES technology show in Las Vegas, BMW unveiled an automobile that can change colors. The electric car, named the BMW iX Flow, features a unique shell similar to an e-book reader's e-ink display. This enables it to switch between white and dark gray. Other hues are technically feasible but more challenging to execute. In addition, BMW mentioned a research and design initiative during its presentation in Las Vegas.

Built on a dedicated BEV platform (read: not borrowed from a hybrid or 2009 Camry), the Urban Cruiser doesn’t just recycle an existing chassis and hope for the best. Two battery options are available: a 49 kWh pack for the conservative commuter and a 61 kWh pack for those brave enough to venture outside the city limits without checking their charger app every five minutes.
