2022 Lexus NX is the premium SUV derived from RAV4

The 2022 Lexus NX represents not only the next generation of one of Toyota's best-selling SUVs but also the beginning of a new era for the firm. It is the first of 20 new or updated models that the brand will present between now and 2025, and that is why it is responsible for the brand new infotainment and, for the first time at Lexus, a plug-in hybrid system.

Despite the revolution it represents for the brand, the 2022 Lexus NX does not break the mould when it comes to design. Its new generation is continuous to some extent, with classic Lexus elements, such as a huge trapezoidal grille, sharp headlights, slender skulls and a very strong personality.

The true evolution is in the cabin, where we will find a significant leap in refinement and the option of different shades of upholstery, with white, red or brown leather, for example. The most notable gadget is a new Lexus Interface infotainment system with a 14-inch screen, capable of being updated via WiFi, with smartphone integration and functions developed with the North American market in mind.

The brand sought to minimize the number of buttons but was consistent with its focus on the driver by leaving physical controls for air conditioning or volume. Other settings, such as seat heating, were integrated into the display functions, but with shortcuts.

If the Lexus NX shines for something, it is because of the variety of engines to choose from, not only because of their power levels but because of their nature. The most accessible corresponds to the NX 250 and, like several mechanical elements of this model, it is shared with the Toyota RAV4. It is a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated engine, generating 203 hp and 184 lb.-ft., available with front or all-wheel drive.

Lexus is one of the main drivers of hybrid vehicles in the premium market, and of course, the NX does not leave that option out. The NX 350h uses a hybrid system of 239 hp and estimated performance of 15.3 km / l, but the novelty of this generation does not lie in that version, but in the NX 450h + , which is the first Lexus plug-in hybrid, with a range of 57 km per charge and a power source inherited from the Toyota RAV4 Prime.
