Simona Halep (Romania) has decided to withdraw from the event in Cincinnati. Muscle damage is the cause. As a result, Jessica Pegula of the United States advanced to the third round of the event.
Simona Halep defeated Camila Giorgi (Italy} in the first round of the US Open women's singles.
