Self-control refers to the capacity to coerce oneself into doing what you know you should do, even when you are not in the mood. Self-control has been demonstrated to be a more accurate predictor of academic performance than IQ, and kids who exercise self-control do better academically and are happier. School and homework are excellent chances for your child to develop self-control. Praise them for exercising excellent self-control when they are forced to perform something they dislike. Recognize your child's effort, for instance, if he or she stays at home and completes their schoolwork

While self-control may not come easily to your adolescent, it is worth the effort to help them develop this ability since it will help them achieve in life long after their adolescent years are through.
